Misconduct can be very damaging
What’s your experience with sexual harassment? Hopefully none.
My experiences of sexual harassment: My first experience was at primary school. When I didn’t get the answer right the teacher would call me up to his desk, put his hand under my dress and pinch the soft skin between my legs. Obviously I complained about it.
Later, in my twenties, I had a boss who used to pinch my bum. It is an invasion of one’s private space, one you share with your partner, not with others. I hated it and told him so on many occasions, but he said it meant nothing. If it didn’t mean anything and I didn’t like it, why did he continue doing it then?
These days it would constitute as harassment, but in my day, women were only starting to enter the job market in jobs other than teachers, nurses and secretaries, and there were very few rules about these things.
I also know of women who had to do certain favors for the bosses… you know…. not all unwilling mind you. I know of one who thought it was like a status thing – she was ‘the chosen one’. However, she didn’t know, but she wasn’t the only one chosen.
If the relationship is between two consenting adults and neither is married or in a ‘committed relationship’ it is one thing; if not, and the ‘other’ parties are oblivious, it is a different kettle of fish entirely, especially if the person is abusing their power and making you do things against your will or better judgement.
